Issues to Improve the NDIS
Alliance20 members strongly believe in the NDIS. It is and will be a fabulous scheme. It must be a central component of enabling people with disability to be fully included in our society.
Drawing on our depth of experience in providing services to people with disability we have identified key issues that must be addressed to ensure the scheme is successful. This includes enabling a strong provider sector that can meet the needs and choices of people with disabilities.
We want to work with people with disability, the government, the National Disability Insurance Agency and others on those issues and find solutions. We are pleased to say that we have already established a positive relationship with the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and we acknowledge the professional work it is doing to establish this major social reform. We look forward to continuing this close partnership with the NDIA’s Board and senior executives to address these issues.
Underpinning our suggestions for how to develop the policy and operational requirements of the NDIS is:
- our demonstrated and determined commitment to enabling people with disability to be fully involved in their society and community;
- the long term and unwavering commitment our organisations have demonstrated to using whatever government and community resources are available to achieve this outcome;
- the need for substantial industry investment to enable the growth in volume and options required for future demand which does not unnecessarily disrupt or destroy the historical experience and capability of existing providers.
