Disability Alliances Unite to Strengthen the Future of the NDIS

    By Amanda Nicol | NDIS | Comments are Closed | 13 July, 2026 | 0

Two of Australia’s leading disability industry alliances have announced plans to come together under a single organisation, Ability First Australia. This marks an important step by providers in their commitment to strengthening the long-term sustainability of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Ten not-for-profit disability providers, currently part of industry body Alliance 20, will join Ability First Australia (Ability First). This will make Ability First Australia’s largest not-for-profit industry alliance in the disability sector – bringing together 25 not for profit mission driven disability service providers, their CEOs and workforces.

Under the Ability First banner, these organisations will continue to support hundreds of thousands of Australians with disability across metropolitan, regional and remote communities and employ a substantial proportion of the workforce delivering disability services under the NDIS.

Callen O’Brien, Independent Chair of Ability First Australia, said the decision to join the two industry alliances reflects a shared commitment by leading not-for-profit providers to work together in the interests of people with disability and the long-term strength of the NDIS.

“This is an important step for the disability sector. By bringing these organisations together under the Ability First Australia banner, we are creating a stronger national voice and a more effective platform for practical, participant-focused reform.

Rob White, Chair of Alliance 20, said the move is ultimately about participant outcomes and the value of a stronger national alliance.

“This joining of two respected national alliances, enhances our ability to contribute practical solutions that protect participant choice and support the long-term strength of the Scheme.”

“This is good for participants, their providers and good for government. By coming together, we are strengthening our ability to put forward experienced, evidence-based solutions that improve outcomes for people with disability within responsible, sustainable settings.” Rob White said.

The transition of the new members into Ability First Australia is expected to be completed by July 2026. Ability First Australia – Maximising Potential.
