Federal budget marks a positive new era is disability support

    By cburcham | NDIS | Comments are Closed | 18 May, 2023 | 0

Australia’s largest disability service providers welcomed the NDIS reform measures outlined in tonight’s Federal Budget as critical first steps in creating a sustainable scheme.

Quotes attributable to Rob White, Chair Alliance20

“Alliance20 members exist to serve the interests of people with disability and we are enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with participants and government to secure the NDIS for the long-term.

“In recent years our members have been struggling with a fractured system while being sidelined and ignored on critical issues around scheme design.

“The reality is that we are for-purpose organisations established with clear intention: to support people with disability live their best lives.

“We stand ready to work with the government and participants to develop world-leading models of support that are informed by and centre on the needs and choices of people with disability.

“It is heartening that the government is prepared to invest in the National Disability Insurance Agency and the broader sector so we are all best positioned to respond to what people with disability want from their NDIS.

“We share the government’s commitment to improving models of Independent Living and exploring models of Blended Payments.

“In recent years unfortunately providers have been left out of these processes, our role downgrading to transactional end-users rather than trusted stakeholders in the system.

“By working in partnership we can share our insights on frontline service delivery and care, but more importantly partner in innovations that improve the outcomes for people with disability.

“This is what market stewardship should be all about.

“Through the processes outlined tonight – and the broader review that is underway – we are confident we can play a central role in delivering a world-class and sustainable NDIS.
